A REAL Introduction

Hey there. I'm so glad you're here. Thank you for taking time out of your day to be with me. I think it's time I introduced myself for reals. Like none of the fluffy stuff you see on my about page. Although it's straight from the heart, it doesn't really get down to the bones of who I am and why I do what I do. I'm a divorced mom, a HUGE animal lover, a creative, a dreamer, a Taurus and ONE. HOT. MESS.

Yup, I'm not afraid to say it anymore. I'm a hot freakin' mess. That's what most creatives are, I've found. Ha ha! But you know what? That's okay. I'm not a hot mess in the sense that I can never accomplish anything, or that I'm irresponsible or that I'm always messing things up... I'm a hot mess in the sense that I admit that I don't have it all together. I'm not perfect, and that I have a WAYS to go in the perfection department. As in, it will NEVER HAPPEN. But... isn't that just human? I know, I know, you're wondering why I'm talking about this. It's because I want you to know the real me, understand my struggles and know that the little tid bits of wisdom and the stupid funnies in my artwork are coming from a place of pure honesty and experience.

There are days when I truly want to drink a bottle of wine at 10 am because already it's been a long day but I have to drink coffee instead. There are days when I jump out of bed and want to shout from the rooftops that today is the day I will move mountains. More often than not, I roll up in the drop off lane at my kid's school forgetting I hadn't looked in the mirror yet and my pillow created the hairstyle of the day... whoops! I'm sure some of you moms can relate!

My brand is about sharing the good and the bad... celebrating those "mom moments", giving you a little bit of a push when you need some inspirational oomph and poking fun at life. If we can't love, laugh and cry, what's the point, right?

One of my favorite designs was born out of one of these "mom moments". Actually, it was more of parenting moment because it was my son who sparked the inspiration. It was one morning last year before school and my son was getting dressed and asked me if I'd help him fix his hair. He was going through a spikey-hair phase and hadn't quite gotten the hang of using the pomade we'd got him by himself. Every morning when he got up, the back of his head was all wonky from going to bed after taking a shower and we'd have to tame it before tackling his front spike. He looked in the mirror and looked at me and said, "Mom, you know I don't really need a hairstylist. My pillow gives me a new hairstyle every morning!" I busted out laughing and so did he. On the ride to school, we talked about it and decided that story could be turned into a great t-shirt idea. So, that is how we came up with the "My pillow is my hairstylist" tee design.

It's funny where inspiration comes from sometimes. Most of my uplifting quotes come from my personal collection. I have struggled with depression and anxiety since I was in college and it was amplified when I got divorced back in 2009. I didn't even truly realize that I had a cycle of depression and anxiety until I was in the middle of my divorce, alone in a new state over 1500 miles from family and friends. I discovered that I use music, art and literature as my own personal therapists and created a notebook full of favorite quotes, lyrics and sketches. After my divorce and as I began to build my own company, I decided that I wanted to share some of the same words that got me through the tough times and helped me hold my head up higher. I wanted to be a light for people stuck in the darkness. So the quotes, inspirational words and designs you see on my products are very personal to me and I hope that they resonate with you, too!
